Background Information

April 1943, a study in contrasts. On the day Jews throughout the world prepared to celebrate Passover, the Jewish holiday of freedom commemorating the Exodus from Egypt, the Jews of the Warsaw ghetto began their armed revolt, forcing the Germans to retreat and regroup. In Bermuda, American and British representatives gathered to consider the refugee crisis, but formed no plan of action. The Holocaust continued to rage across Europe.
