Object DescriptionPen and ink drawing. Hand holding food ration card, delivering barrels on cart pulled and pushed by people, people lining up for food. Text in German on face translates: Food distribution. Each meal has to be delivered to thousands of sick people. Food distribution in yards and corridors for the blocks. Long lines wait in barrack yards for their food rain or shine. Signed and dated bottom right corner PL 17.IX.42. On reverse in pencil: #9.

NotesPeter Loewenstein, brother of Gerda Korngold, was born in 1919 in Karlsbad, Czechoslovakia; grew up in Litomerice (Leitmeritz). He attended Charles University in Prague for engineering. Loewenstein was deported to Terezin (transport # AK 1, 361) fall 1941, where he worked in the technical department, executing drawings in pen and ink and watercolor. He was deported to Auschwitz 1944 where he perished. See MJH newsletter March 1990.
