Object DescriptionMetal table knife given to Esther Chaitin, who was born in Siauliai in 1925, by a German officer in the Torun camp. Torun was a subcamp of Stutthof. It was a labor camp for women. The German officer was fairly kind to the women prisoners. He was 75 years old and often brought food and other objects from the warehouse to the young women and the children. Esther worked unloading trucks and received in return a loaf of bread. The family used the knife to divide the loaves among five people: Esther, her sisters Lea, Chana, and Haviva, and their mother, Bella.
