NotesHoward Samuels (1919-1984) was a prominent Jewish businessman, politician and supporter of Israel. He was unsuccessful in his three attempts at winning the democratic nomination for Governor of New York in 1962, 1970 and 1974. In 1966 he was nominated for Lieutenant Governor with Frank D. O'Connor for Governor in the New York State gubernatorial primary, but was defeated by Nelson A. Rockefeller and Malcolm Wilson in the general election.
