Object DescriptionFooted silver parcel-gilt etrog [citron] shaped box made of two pieces, hinged together. The base has a repeating decorative motif. Three sets of hallmarks appear at the very bottom of the base, below the decoration to be identified. Likely in the family for generations.

NotesMelanie Haas born 1882 in Gau-Odernheim (d. Sept. 14, 1931), Rheinhessen married Salomon (Salo) Hess, a textile merchant, in 1908. Salo died 1952 in the United States (worked in Real Estate). Their one child, Gertrud Johanna Hess, b. 1909, went to a seminary for kindergarten teachers and married Erich Joseph Frank in 1932. Erich was the son of Samuel and Jacobine Frank (nee Joseph) of Frankfurt where they had a coffee and dry goods business. In 1935 their one child Peter was born. Erich came to the US on the St. Louis on September 1, 1938. Gertrud and Peter followed on November 18, 1938. Salo came in 1940 on a visitor's visa through Portugal. He died in 1952. Erich died in 1965 and Gertrud in 1995.
