Object DescriptionWooden box with slot on top for money. In Hebrew on front: Keren Ha-Torah (Torah fund). Text in French: Section Beth-Jacob. Organisation pour la protection at l'education de la jeune fille juive. (Organization for the protection and education of the Jewish girl). Dovetail joints. Metal attachment to hang to box up. Bottom slides out to remove money. Double metal screw eyes to allow locking. Lourie & Co. was a Jewish owned and operated firm with factories in Pinsk and Vienna and an export business throughout Europe as well to in the United States, Africa and Asia. They developed a strong, cheap plywood from alder wood which they sold under the trade name Tobal. It was eminently suited for packing crates of all grades.
