Object DescriptionRectangular silver box, balsa wood interior, bottom of box has only a silver edge, framing the wooden lining. Hallmarks and numbers of manufacturer stamped on bottom. 830/1000 silver. Probably used for cigarettes by Jonas Plaut in Germany.

NotesJonas Plaut is father of donor W. Gunther Plaut. W. Gunther Plaut (born 1912, Germany), to US 1935, Chaplain US Army 1943-45; in 1938 married Elizabeth Strauss (born 1910, Cincinnati). Rabbi Plaut served congregations in Chicago, St. Paul, presently senior scholar, Toronto's Holy Blossom Temple. Jonas born 8/23/1880 in Willingshausen, died 10/11/48 in Fargo, North Dakota.
